Run the Jewels talk Kanye West, Rihanna and YouTube in interview with Banksy
Elusive artist is hosting El-P and Killer Mike at his “bemusement park” Dismaland.
Next week sees the opening of elusive artist Banksy’s Dismaland “bemusement park” in Weston-super-Mare.
Run the Jewels will be performing on 4th September at Dismaland, as part of a line-up that also includes appearances from Sleaford Mods, Savages, Massive Attack, Pussy Riot and Kate Tempest. It runs until 27th September.
Ahead of their appearance, El-P and Killer Mike agreed to be interviewed by Banksy, as facilitated by The Guardian. As well as being asked “would you rather be thought of as a great artist or a nice person?” (El-P’s response being “I don’t get paid to be a nice guy, I just try to be one.”) they also gave their thoughts on Kanye West, Rihanna and YouTube.
“Kanye is amazing and may be the greatest rock star in the world,” said Killer Mike when asked of Kanye had “any competition”, before adding: “Rihanna is the new Tupac (in feminist form), and as much as I love rock, ain’t nobody do it like Pac! Ri-Ri rules in my book.”
El-P had this to say when asked about the last time he cried watching YouTube: “When the two guys raised the lion and then set the lion free but they missed the lion and they visited it in Africa and the lion was now king of his tribe and had a wife and children but he recognised the two guys and ran up and hugged them and licked their faces.”
