Shabazz Palaces get ritualistic in the video for ‘Shine A Light’

Recently, Shabazz Palaces released not one but two albums on Sub Pop surrounding their ‘Quazarz’ saga: ‘Born On A Gangster Star’ and ‘vs.The Jealous Machines’.

‘Shine A Light’ was one of the first tunes they showcased from the double-album release. Featuring Thaddillac, it’s a funk-infused, pretty swooning cut from the experimental hip hop duo. The video, on the other hand… Well…

In a strange way the whole thing is oddly joyous. However, it does centre on the sacrificing of a half-human, half-goat baby at a teenage wedding. It’s therefore somewhere between ‘The Wicker Man’ and a David Cronenburg-like body horror film. Despite some of the euphoria coming from the characters, this one might haunt your dreams tonight.

Shabazz Palaces also recently announced a big old European tour for October and November, and you can see all of the announced dates here. As part of the trip they’ll be heading to the UK, coming to London, Manchester and Glasgow. Tickets are on sale now.
