Shunkan shares new track ‘Our Names’
Arriving ahead of debut album proper - ‘The Pink Noise’ - this serves as a grungey, sherbet-rolled preview of things to come.
New Zealand-based Marina Sakimoto has returned in the guise of a five-piece on Shunkan’s new release, ‘Our Names’. With the backing of a full band, Sakimoto carves new space out of the grunge. Dry wit dominates, and Shunkan has an increasing knack for lines like “I can’t stop falling up the stairs, thank god there’s no-one to care, see what you’ve done to me now, bruising my way through the house.” Weirdly touching, and delivered on an almighty slab of sherbet-grunge, it marks an amping-up of the entire project.
‘Our Names’ offers a preview of Shunkan’s debut album ‘The Pink Noise’, which is tentatively pencilled in for release this summer.
Shunkan’s latest single will get a physical release on 13th April via Art Is Hard Records, and ‘Our Names’ is set to come out as a “comic book single,” too. Teaming up with illustration duo Hats & Milk, Shunkan have put together a limited edition, hand screen-printed A6 comic to match the single. You can pre-order it here.
