The Joy Formidable get charitable with new ‘Sleep Is Day’ EP
They’re donating all proceeds from a new PledgeMusic campaign to the Sumatran Orangutan Society.
Hot on the heels of March’s ‘Hitch’ album, The Joy Formidable are gearing up to release a brand new EP.
Titled ‘Sleep Is Day’, it features ‘Liana’ from that aforementioned LP, alongside a bunch of new acoustics. As the band’s Ritzy Bryan explains, they “had some beautiful live recordings of tracks from ‘Hitch’ that we’d done acoustically, I think they were the building blocks of this EP. Then things got dangerous when we started dabbling with a few covers.”
Oh yes - covers. Not just any covers either - the band are taking on The Misfits and Bowie. Brave stuff. To celebrate the release, they’ve unveiled a new video for ‘Liana’, which is premiering below. A stunning compilation of nature’s highlights, it’s a formidable (sorry) feast for the eyes.
It’s not all fun and games though. The release is being funded via PledgeMusic, with all proceeds from the campaign being donated to the Sumatran Orangutan Society. “We read a tweet by the naturalist and conservationist Bill Oddie where he was lamenting the destruction of the lianas in the orangutans’ natural habitat,” explains Ritzy. “Once we started reading about the crisis the orangutan was facing, it set the wheels in motion for us wanting to raise some money.”
Great music for a great cause - you’d be daft not to, really. Watch the ‘Liana’ video below, and check out the campaign here. The tracklisting for ‘Sleep Is Day’ can be found below the player.
