The Maccabees top the Official UK Album Chart
‘Marks To Prove It’ fought off competition from Lianne La Havas to score the band their first Number 1.
It’s been a tense battle in this week’s Official Albums Chart but now the results are in and the winners have been crowned: The Maccabees have scored their first ever Number 1.
Their fourth album ‘Marks To Prove It’ was ahead of Lianne La Havas’ new offering ‘Blood’ by just 300 copies in the midweeks, and they’ve now officially topped the charts.
The South London-based band ended up finishing a nail-biting 1,300 combined chart sales ahead of Lianne, who entered the charts at Number 2.
Speaking of their first chart victory, the band’s Felix White has said: “We are very proud that our fourth album has given us our first Number 1. Thank you so much to everyone that bought it and for staying with us all these years.”
Elsewhere in the Top 5, Years & Years’ ‘Communion’, Ed Sheeran’s ‘X’ and Sam Smith’s ‘In The Lonely Hour’ all stand firm for another week, with other acts entering the Top 40 including Led Zeppelin (with three reissues!) and Joss Stone.
Not only are The Maccabees this week’s Number 1, they’re also DIY’s newest cover stars. Check out our cover feature with the band here, and pick up a copy of the August issue of DIY at one of our stockists.
