Tool post a message about the Record Store Day mix-up between them and U2

Fans who bought U2’s ‘Songs Of Innocence’ found Tool’s ‘Opiate’ EP inside the sleeve.

As reported on Tuesday, a couple of U2 fans who bought the group’s ‘Songs Of Innocence’ Record Store Day release discovered that their sleeves were housing Tool’s 1992 ‘Opiate’ EP inside.

Three U2 fans tweeted they experienced the problem when they bought the vinyl at Banquet Records in Kingston on Saturday 18th April. Since reporting the bizarre mix-up, Tool have posted a brief message on their official website with a link to the original story via FACT.

“Nice freakin try, U2,” it says. “Some very lucky people who purchased U2’s Songs Of Innocence during a recent record store release found instead a copy of Tool’s 1992 Opiate EP inside. Kind of makes you believe in mysterious higher powers, doesn’t it?”

The problem was identified when U2 fan Dianne Delahunty tweeted Record Store Day’s UK Twitter account informing them of the error: “@RSDUK seems there’s a couple of #U2 #RSD15 misprints about - some have a Tool EP inside!”, she tweeted.

Delahunty purchased her record from Banquet Records in Kingston with two other fans also coming forward to state they had experienced the same mistake.
