Watch Deerhoof collaborate with the Large Hadron Collider
Well, sort of.
Deerhoof were invited to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN by physicist Dr. James Beacham last month as part of his Ex/Noise/CERN project, which pairs experimental musicians with the spaces at the centre in Switzerland to create.
“Musical curiosity is similar to scientific curiosity and, on a personal level, Deerhoof has inspired me as much as Einstein,” he said. “They’re explorers and this sense of exploration is what you feel in the air at CERN right now, and so the pairing of Deerhoof and CERN was natural.”
“W hen we brought Deerhoof to CERN, we weren’t sure what they’d do in SM-18. But like the best scientists, they were curious, daring and embraced the unknown — with spectacular results.”

Deerhoof released twelfth studio album, ‘La Isla Bonita’ back in November last year. Read an interview with the band about the record as featured in the November 2014 issue of DIY, here.

The title of this record is much like the music it bears — you squint at it for a minute, trying to work out what it means, and then suddenly it all makes sense.
