Willis Earl Beal to self-release new album 'Experiments in Time'

Chicago songwriter Willis Earl Beal has announced plans to self-release his next album ‘Experiments in Time’, which is due out on 8th August digitally.

This’ll be his first release since leaving XL Recordings imprint Hot Charity. Talking to Under the Radar, he cited “tedious circumstances, legal disputes, misappropriations of funds, songwriting credits - all sorts of things” as his decision to leave the label.

Citing a lack of autonomy in the release process, he admitted that “signing a record deal was the best, most exotic thing that had ever happened to me.” But he complained that Hot Charity was an upstart - “With respect to the people involved,” he said, “I just don’t think that they were prepared - not only to deal with an artist but to deal with a human being.”

Catch-up with the self=released ‘Curious Cool’ mini-album from earlier this year.
