Young Fathers cover DIY’s November 2022 issue
Young Fathers stand as one of the most creative, boundaryless bands of their generation. Now, with fourth LP ‘Heavy Heavy’, they’re channelling it into a record that puts human connection at the fore.
If there’s one band from the past decade who continually defy boundaries and focus on creating innovative and vital art, it’s Young Fathers. Ever since the release of their Mercury Prize-winning debut ‘Dead’ back in 2014, the Edinburgh trio have become renowned as a creative force to be reckoned with and now, having just announced details of fourth album ‘Heavy Heavy’, we are thrilled to welcome them to the cover this month to tell us more about it.
Elsewhere in our penultimate issue of the year - yes, really! - we talk the concept of home with Big Joanie as they release their new album ‘Back Home’, get a little otherworldly with Connie Constance around the release of her debut ‘Miss Power’, and dive back into Dry Cleaning’s idiosyncratic world as they share their second full-length ‘Stumpwork’.
We also get the lowdown from Shame on Album Three, chat to the Gabriels’ brilliant frontman Jacob Lusk, and quiz Courtney Barnett on her Grease trivia, as well as introduce you to our current Neu faves DEADLETTER, Kynsy, and Gretel Hänlyn.
Plus, we gather up a host of DIY favourites - Goat Girl! Phoebe Green! Jelani Blackman! Willie J Healey! - to help us dissect the year that was 2022 in our annual Great Debate…
What are you waiting for? Dive in online now, and you can order your very own physical copy of the mag and it’ll come whizzing through your letterbox in the next few days.
