Young Fathers win the Mercury Prize 2014

Young Fathers have won this year’s Mercury Prize, picking up the gong for their album, ‘Dead’. They beat off competing entries from the likes of Jungle, Kate Tempest, Bombay Bicycle Club, Royal Blood and Anna Calvi, amongst others.

“We’re an odd group,” the band told DIY before the ceremony. “It’s not something you can just sell to people and be like, ‘This is it’. This isn’t a guitar band. It’s not something that’s straight down the line.”

They were awarded the accolade at a ceremony in the Roundhouse, London this evening (Wednesday 29th October), which also saw live performances from each of the artists in the running.
