Abattoir Blues - Sense

The first steps from Brighton group Abattoir Blues were all about sheer force. Like a shock and awe tactic, frontman Harry Sinclair Waugh’s unhinged, barking vocal was the main draw. This especially applied at their early local shows, a jaw-dropping display of noise. The group’s fuzz-first bedroom recordings helped capture the magic of those nights, but ‘Sense’ goes several steps further.

‘Sense’ is all about the build. A simple, light-footed guitar line step-by-step gives way to a storm. Harry’s distinctive clarion call is designed from the ground up. By the end, he’s crying “oh did you see the sun go?” like he’s been blinded for life. It’s a dramatic, over-the-top delivery of emotion, but it’s one that suits Abattoir Blues well. All of a sudden these hellraisers seem to have a new purpose.
