Morrissey - You Are The Quarry

If you want a dictionary definition of average, look no further than ‘You Are The Quarry’.

Quick, somebody namedrop The Smiths - people might not think we’re cool enough yet. We obviously love Morrissey. He can do no wrong, he has a fantastic voice. He’s responsible for every good song ever written.

Or maybe not.

If you want a dictionary definition of average, look no further than ‘You Are The Quarry’. We’re quite aware this could be an opinion which carries a death sentence with many of you middle aged bed-wetters out there, but you’d be best advised to wait before you shoot the messengers.

Yes, ‘Irish Blood, English Heart’ is good, if you like the idea of Mozza singing a Stellastarr* cast off with guitars that are just that bit too heavy and distorted for someone your dad’s age to be pouring political self pitying bollocks all over.

Bar that it’s largely an old man in an ill-fitting suit singing bad karaoke down the local. ‘I Have Forgiven Jesus’ is the daddy of all emo, entirely sparse and non-eventual apart from a constant stream of paranoid ramblings. ‘Come Back to Camden’ sounds exactly like those tapes of old crooners your Mum used to play on those trips to the Lake District, just without the personality, and if we have to do any more than tell you the title of ‘How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel?’ then you’re most likely beyond help.

Legends are all very well. The Smiths, although not to everyone’s taste, were an exceptionally good band. But is there really any need for this?
