Thumpers - Galore

They’re clingy, unerringly happy and they’re ready to spend the rest of their lives with you.

‘Galore’ is the perfect title for Thumpers’ debut album - joyous, showy and maybe even a little cheesy, it sees in a sound that’s teeming with youthful energy. Thumpers bring to music what a toddler brings to perspective when they see the world for the first time. Everything feels new, previously unencountered by Marcus Pepperell and John Hamson Jr.. Sounds that might grow stale in different company come off as positively vital here.

The leading duo dress up tracks in tongue-twisting choruses, soaring synths and a sense of triumph that’ll only be matched if England miraculously make it past the group stage at the World Cup. Summer 2014 is the best one yet, if Thumpers have anything to do about it.

For the most part, lyrics are indecipherable. Hooks in ‘Dancing’s Done’ and ‘Unkinder (A Tougher Love)’ come backed by unhinged glee, the sound of a couple of blokes trying to express love in twelve different ways at once. Words roll on top of each other in caffeine-fuelled cacophony. It’s a delightful, blitz-speed and undeniably silly form of expression that does nothing but enamour.

As the album’s vastly ambitious centrepiece suggests, Thumpers really do ‘Come On Strong’. They’re clingy, unerringly happy and they’re ready to spend the rest of their lives with you. They’re a wagging tailed dog that jumps on its owner in ecstasy when they only went round the corner to pick up a pint of milk. Positivity has no bounds, and in ‘Galore’ this London duo has successfully created a prescription for crummy moods, rain soaked commutes and even the slightest hint of misery.
