Judging by the only picture going of mysterious musician Astronomyy’s live set up, this guy plays guitar, stamps on loop pedals and gives the whole one man musician tag some much-needed cool. Emerging this time last year with slick, tightly-wound pop that appropriately aims right for the stars, he’s since supported London Grammar (his debut show being at Brixton Academy). ‘Nothin On My Mind’ is the next big step, appearing as part of a debut, self-released EP.
On his latest cut, he sounds like a bedroom producer ready to make being on the stage a full-time thing. This is the first of his songs to benefit from the added production of Rodaidh McDonald, but it still retains the slick staples of early efforts. Muted guitar lines chop and change, giving the impression of something dark and complex. At the heart though, Astronomyy’s always kept things simple, and ‘Nothin On My Mind’ is all about soaring hooks and a to-the-point chorus.
The ‘There For U’ EP is available for pre-order now.
