Just when the overkill of electro-new wave revival seemed to have peaked, Bearsuit have come along and topped with it ‘Please Don’t Take Him Back.’ Not that that’s a bad thing; it’s just not earth-shattering good.
It all kicks off with a sound similar to those creative weirdoes / geniuses MGMT, while the vocals rewind to a time of early day Human League. Again, the similarities in sound and songwriting aren’t necessarily bad - it’s the seeming lack of originality and the overabundance of electro-dance blitz that can quickly make this song tiresome.
And if that’s not evidence enough, the climatic ending is coupled with a female vocal chorus that walks the rope of cringe-worthy and just plain obnoxious. The omnipresent robotic electronic beats sneaked into the background make the overall song tolerable to listen to, but everything else associated with it just falls flat, sadly enough.
