is a brilliant name, at least we think it is. The six piece, hailing from Norwich have returned with a new single, not on recent album ‘Oh:Io’ and manage to put forward a great example of the UKs DIY scene.
That said, some will find this single incredibly annoying, there’s girly, screechy vocals repeating the chorus of “Don’t push me over / push me over” over a track consisting of blaring, glitchy keyboards. It’s both really quite danceable and twee, in other words, a bit Los Campesinos! only with a little more electronic input. There’s even a little shouty bit in the middle that’s very much in the style that Los Camp! have perfected. The backing vocals recall The Pipettes, in a rather ace manner, yet this song will doubtlessly polarise those who hear it. It’s endearing and charming to these ears however.
Just as good, yet more accessible is ‘Robot Arms’, which ditches the blaring keyboards allowing the rhythm section to carry the track, over which boy/girl vocals harmonise, recalling Belle & Sebasitan in the verses and The Deirdres (fans of Bearsuit are encouraged to check this band out) in the choruses. It’s completely different to ‘Pushover’ and a nice showcase for what Bearsuit are about.
