Post Louis - This Could Be A Bridge

The duo create tracks of transient perspective, no matter what sound lies behind them.

London’s Post Louis are vocalist Stephanie Davin and former Cajun Dance Party guitarist, Robbie Stern. In April they shared ‘Oldsmobile’, a sparse and subtle track, with Davin’s elegiac vocals at the centrepiece of an accomplished debut. It didn’t fully hint at what was to follow, though.

Debut EP ‘This Could Be A Bridge’ is inspired by American alt-rock. It appears to be a spot of career repositioning for Stern; trading in the exuberance of his past for a more classic sound, which ends up in part pushing the same tones as former bandmates Yuck. However, alongside Davin’s striking vocals and forlorn lyrics, the duo create tracks of transient perspective, no matter what sound lies behind them.

‘Pharma’ is a driving rhythm, with the duo taking to the road with unabashed freedom, whilst the title track possesses a sudden turn in tone, as if the duo took a bend at high speed. Closer ‘Your Hotel’, alongside ‘Oldsmobile’, still retain the echoes of their bold riffs, but their spirit is a little more melancholy. Davin sounds particularly fractured on the former, bruised by the past, but bolder from the experience.

By its nature, the EP is one of two parts - all out riffs on the front and plaintive subtleties on the back. But it’s the melodic moments that secure ‘This Could Be A Bridge’’s balance. Whether considered as a career repositioning for Stern, or simply taken on face value, Post Louis have succeeded in creating a thrilling revivalism of their own.
