First Listen: JADE - ‘FUFN (Fuck You For Now)’

March has been a big month for UK pop legend JADE: not only did the Little Mix star take to the stage at the BRITs for a bombastic, show-stopping performance of her stand-out hit ‘Angel Of My Dreams’, but she also took home the prize of Best Pop Act that very same night. 

Now, after teasing the track in an array of different ways - including during her recent Fendi Mamma Baguette campaign, and via a dancer’s bum cheeks during her aforementioned BRITs performance (check out the clip at 3:11 for evidence!) - she’s finally shared her newest single ‘FUFN (Fuck You For Now)’, and we here at DIY have been lucky enough to have a first listen.

Doubling as the fifth track to come from the icon so far - following her bassy, attitude-packed ‘IT girl’, which landed back in January - ‘FUFN (Fuck You For Now)’ is a banger of the finest degree that sees Jade making an impassioned plea with her partner to stop sparring and give her some (albeit temporary) space. 

Channelling the kind of headstrong, gutsy attitude that JADE has built her name on so far, it’s a track that feels to emulate the gloriously heady heights of Lady Gaga’s ‘The Fame Monster’, with its slinky, reflective verses soon making way for a dizzying, thumping chorus in which she declares, “Baby, back off of my face right now / Don’t you tell me to calm down / In other words, just fuck you for now”. Bolstered by darkly rhythmic bridge in which she reckons with the potential impact of her actions (“I pray tomorrow we’ll be okay,” she belts, before a rumination of “Don’t walk away, just walk away” kicks in), it’s a ballsy offering that continues to prove JADE is one of the most enticing and fresh voices in pop right now.
