The Last Shadow Puppets - My Mistakes Were Made For You

On the whole, the single works.

In support of their current tour comes this elegant little number taken from the Mercury nominated ‘The Age Of The Understatement’. ‘My Mistakes Were Made For You’ wouldn’t sound too out of place from an early Bond film, Alex Turner’s vocals reverberate to the hazy guitars and drum beats that evoke a retro journey to about was far away from anything the Arctic Monkeys ever had to do with. More akin to latter day Divine Comedy, the track’s lush orchestration, amiably supplied by the London Metropolitan Orchestra, provide a suitably grand and classier side to a single that may well have been a rather bland track by itself.

On the whole, the single works. Clocking in at just over three minutes, the track is an enjoyable if ultimately forgettable slice of what the band do well. ‘It’s the fame that put words in her mouth / She couldn’t help but spit them out,’ churns Turner, his urgency that made the Arctic Monkeys such a vibrant act is tempered somewhat here, which leaves you with a slight feeling of indifference towards the band that seemed to have caught many a music lover’s ear.
