Sun Kil Moon unveils new nine-minute single ‘The Possum’
Featuring former Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley, the track is a return to narrative-twisting form.
Sun Kil Moon has returned with ‘The Possum’, a nine-minute epic ostensibly centred around the thought processes that follow the sighting of a dying possum on the side of a road.
With the latter half of Mark Kozelek’s year defined by his somewhat stupid, somewhat hilarious back-and-forth feud with The War On Drugs, it seems as if he’s now ready to put a full-stop to all that ego massaging by getting back to what his Sun Kil Moon project is really about – sprawling, stream-of-consciousness narratives set to stripped back, darkly ambient folk. Former Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley once again provides the percussion.
Sun Kil Moon’s sixth studio album ‘Benji’ was released in February of this year. ‘The Possum’ will be released on December 1st, on Kozelek’s label Caldo Verde.
