Foals unveil ‘What Went Down’ single
Monstrous, game-changing new track is streaming now.
Foals have unveiled the lead, title-track from their new album ‘What Went Down’.
The storming opening number from the group’s fourth album gained its first play on Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show, as a Hottest Record. Streaming below, it has Yannis Philippakis leading the group through their most fearsome moment yet, a gigantic, five-minute long return to the spotlight.
Speaking to Annie Mac, Yannis describes the new song as “definitely the most savage and animalistic,” thing they’ve done. “It feels predatory, like we’re on a hunt.” He also says there are other songs on the record that carry a “similar intensity” to what we’ve just heard, plus a few with “‘Spanish Sahara’ vibes.”
‘What Went Down’ is lifted from Foals’ new album, out 28th August on Warner Music. The album was produced by James Ford in the South of France. Speaking about the new record in a statement, Yannis said: “I wanted to tap into my inner madman and feel like I was channeling some sort of fevered creature.” The new song sees him achieving that, and then some.
