Black Honey air storming new song ‘Ghost’
The monstrously brilliant b-side lands right in time for Halloween.
Boo! Right in time for Halloween, Black Honey have aired the b-side to their recent single ‘Hello Today’. Fittingly, it’s called ‘Ghost’. The monstrous rumbler of a rock song got its first airing last night on Beats 1 last night.
“It’s an ancient Black Honey song,” Izzy B Phillips said of ‘Ghost,’ speaking to show host Julie Adenuga. “It’s one that we wrote years ago, and I think the actual draft of it is maybe the 8th time we recorded it…. It’s still a really cool tune, and it fits perfectly with ‘Hello Today’ because ‘Ghost’ is about the lingering essence, or that taste you have in your mouth after some weird, twisted collision you have with other people like a boyfriend or girlfriend, or when you’re left at the roadside thinking “what just happened? What was that?” This ghost is following you, that’s what it’s about.” Spooky stuff.
Black Honey have spent the whole week dropping in on Julie’s show as her UK Represents act, and on the show, the Brighton hell-raisers also gave an update on that debut record of theirs. Predictably, they’re in no rush.
“We want to take over the world and play a gig on the moon, we want set the whole world on fire with a song, so we’d be stupid to be like, let’s put an album out now when we have so much more to write about and so much more to give,” Izzy said.
“It’s a really exciting time for us because everyone is like, “when is the album coming out?” and we’re like, we haven’t even got started yet,” she went on. “Everyone always says you have the most time to write your first album and we’re perfectionists about everything so, I think that’s why it’s taken us so long probably. It’s starting to feel like it’s getting close now, we’ve started writing towards it and hopefully next summer we hope to do it.”
There you go, then. Listen to the properly ace ‘Ghost’ below.
