News The Week That Was: The Cribs, Adele, Jack White & More

A week is a hell of a long time in music news, but this week was probably longer than most. 131 music news pieces posted to the site in the last seven days. 131 announcements, new tracks, fresh videos and general ‘things’ to keep up with. It’s no surprise there’s a need for a catch up.

If you’re in need of a wake up call, we may as well start with The Cribs, who announced release details of their forthcoming Steve Albini ‘recorded’ album ‘In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull’ this week, and gave an early taster in the form of ‘Chi-Town’. They weren’t the only band unveiling new music this week, with new tracks from `Portishead’s Geoff Barrow, Simian Mobile Disco, Public Image Ltd, The Decemberists, The Mars Volta and The Shins. Oh, and Charli XCX, The Invisible, Theme Park and Kyla La Grange. Amongst others.

Marina & The Diamonds also announced a new record, with Grandaddy main man Jason Lyttle also teasing details of a solo full length later this year. Metronomy, meanwhile are planning a remix album stateside.

It’s awards season, and The Grammys saw, shock horror, a slew of prizes, trophies and trinkets for Adele, who also revealed details of her next single. Speaking of awards, with the BRITs this week, Critics Choice winner Emeli Sande covered Blur’s ‘Country House’ on Radio One. You can make your own mind up on that one.

We had new videos from Jack White, Blood Orange, letlive., Los Campesinos! and Loney Dear, while you could check out full lengths from Sleigh Bells, Cursive and Fun.

In new band news, DZ Deathrays are set to play a residency at the Old Blue Last, Jamie N Commons covered Pink Floyd and Novella announced a free EP, alongside a free download.

And that’s probably only half of it. We’ve not mentioned Frank Carter’s Pure Love playing their debut show, nor the latest batch of additions to Bestival. We’ve even skipped over Niki & The Dove’s (actually confirmed this time) album details. There’s nothing else for it - you’re going to have to block off the afternoon to trawl through our news section proper, thus making the last five minutes of your life a complete waste of time. No need to thank us, really.
