Alfie Templeman shares dreamy new track ‘Used To Love’

Chess Club’s newbie shares his latest genre-blending bop.

With his GCSEs over and the future looking bright, Alfie Templeman is only just getting started. Already with two EPs under his belt, the rising songwriter has just released his latest bop ‘Used To Love’.

A smooth laid-back track, blending Alfie’s hip-hop and indie influences, it’s yet more proof of why he’s considered as one of indie’s shiniest new stars.

Speaking on the song’s creation, Alfie says: “I had my first writing session with Kid Harpoon in summer 2019. We came up with a really interesting riff and six hours later it was a record named ‘Used To Love’. The experience opened my eyes to a whole new dimension of songwriting, how other people approached words and melody. It came together so quickly and effortlessly as we were both on the same page.”

Hopefully the first taste of even more new music, when we had a chat with Alfie for our August Issue, he sounded very excited about what he’s got up his sleeve. “It’s like, AHHH!!’ It’s so amazing! It’s really funky, like, REALLY funky. I can’t even tell you how funky it is! Some of it’s indie, but some of it’s really disco/R&B/pop vibes. The best way to describe it is like summer pop music for someone who’s depressed in winter. I’m really excited, I’m mega excited.”

NGL, we’re pretty excited too.
