ANOHNI shares intense new ‘Obama’ video
She’s also spoken out urging for the release of Chelsea Manning.
Anohni has released a new video from her Mercury Prize-nominated album ‘HOPELESSNESS,’ and it’s typically intense.
The clip for the brooding, politically charged ‘Obama,’ is eerily similar to the video for ‘I Don’t Love You Anymore,’ where the camera lingered on Anohni’s face for the whole duration. Here there’s a bit more variety, focusing on the faces of different women against blank backgrounds.
The track itself expresses disappointment in the overall Obama administration. As he prepares to leave the White House in January, Anohni has urged the outgoing President to pardon Chelsea Manning. Manning is currently serving 35 years in jail for leaking classified documents relating to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Anohni said in an extended statement accompanying the video: “OBAMA, Please let Chelsea Manning out of prison. Recognize her tremendous sacrifice, and her vulnerability. With Trump incoming, if you leave Chelsea there. She will never see the light of day, or worse.” She continued to say that “the election is over. There is no political advantage in allowing Chelsea to perish in prison.”
