Ariana Grande unveils video for ‘hate that i made you love me’

The single is our first preview of her forthcoming new album ‘petal’.

Ariana Grande teases 'petal' with lead single 'hate that i made you love me'

Ariana Grande has dropped the video for ‘hate that i made you love me’, the first track from her forthcoming eighth album ‘petal’ (due out on 31st July via Republic Records).

It sees the pop superstar lean into popular horror film aesthetics for a piece that’s less of a music video, and more of a five minute-long short film; starring Ariana herself and Justin Long, it follows a pair of doomed lovers after their relationship descends into very dark territory indeed…

Co-written and produced by Ariana, ILYA, and Max Martin, ‘hate that i made you love me’ is her first new music since last year’s ‘supernatural’ (excluding her work on the Wicked: For Good soundtrack), and is a woozy, hypnotic cut that spotlights her lower vocal register in a way that’s both playful and mature.

Taking to Instagram a few weeks back to tease its release, Ariana described ‘hate that i made you love me’ as “one of my favorite songs i’ll ever write”. Check out its official music video below.
