Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and Kanye West had probably the tamest argument ever

The two artists were squabbling about the meaning of “humble”.

Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon is good pals with Kanye West by now - the pair of them have collaborated on all sorts of things, from Yeezy’s ‘Lost in the World’ (a reworking of ‘Woods’) to Francis and the Lights’ track ‘Friends’. Kanye even called Justin Vernon his “favourite living artist,” Nawh.

However, it’s not all smooth sailing, and Justin Vernon told the New York Times about a particular squabble he had with Kanye. Argument is stretching things a little bit. It was probably the tamest tiff ever, actually.

“I got in a friendly argument with Kanye West about the word humble once,” Vernon said. Apparently Kanye West - famed world-wide for his humbleness - replied by saying “‘Have you ever looked up the word humble?’ I was like, ‘Actually I don’t know if I have.’ And he showed me the definition of it, and it’s far more self-demeaning, kind of the problematic Midwestern ‘Sorry!’ mentality, than I realised.”

“I took a lot out of that conversation,” continued Justin Vernon, ever the peacemaker. Ultimately, I think it’s great to serve others and everything, but I think there’s a certain point where it’s diminishing returns for the people around you if you’re not showing up and being who you are.”

There you go, then.
