Car Seat Headrest introduce first album in five years with 11-minute single ‘Gethsemane’
Their new record, ‘The Scholars’, is a concept rock opera set at a fictional university…

Car Seat Headrest are back - and they’re making quite the return, having recently announced that their next LP ‘The Scholars’ will be an epic concept album centred around an imagined college, Parnassus University, and the characters walking its campus.
Slated for release on 2nd May via Matador Records, the record is the band’s first studio album in five years - since 2020’s ‘Making A Door Less Open’ - and has been previewed by way of its epic 11-minute lead single, ‘Gethsemane’.
Sharing more about the subject of the new track, the band have explained: “Rosa studies at the medical school of Parnassus University. After an experience bringing a medically deceased patient back to life, she begins to regain powers suppressed since childhood, of healing others by absorbing their pain.
“Each night, instead of dreams, she encounters the raw pain and stories of the souls she touches throughout the day. Reality blurs, and she finds herself taken deep into secret facilities buried beneath the medical school, where ancient beings that covertly reign over the college bring forth their dark plans.” Just a bit of light listening, then.
