Christine & The Queens shares more new album details in new interview

She also digs deeper into the ‘Chris’ name change.

Christine & The Queens is releasing her new album ‘Chris’ in September, and has gone deeper into its creation in a new interview.

The album - which has been previewed by new tracks ‘Girlfriend’ and ‘Doesn’t matter’ - sees the emergence of a new alter-ego called Chris, and Héloïse Letissier explained a bit more about it in a new interview with The Times.

“Héloïse? Christine? Chris? Maybe I will be called C at some point,” she said of how people should address her.

“Well, Chris is just the shorter version of Christine, so most of my friends have called me Chris for a while. It’s way more efficient.”

“Is it weird to say that makes me feel bad? When you choose everything, including a name, and people go back to calling you Héloïse? Well, you realise, ‘Oh. There are things I can’t change, huh?’”

She also went back to the initial creation of Christine, a character built to help the singer deal with loneliness.

“I invented ‘Christine’ as a survival technique to deal with many things. I felt it would save me. Then people started to listen to the album, so I thought, ‘Am I going to be healed?’ But it doesn’t work like that. I am more armed, but still have the same sadness.”

“When I started to write music, I desperately wanted to relate to people. But when I became famous, I could relate less. I thought, ‘Oh, am I trapped in my own creation?’ I was really lonely.”

‘Chris’ comes out on 21st September, following debut album ‘Chaleur Humaine’. She’s set to take it on a massive world tour later this year.
