God Damn: “It’s absolutely mad!”

The duo are gearing up to kick off the first show of Dr. Martens’ #STANDFORSOMETHING Tour tomorrow.

It’s been a busy year for God Damn. Not only have the Black Country duo spent the past few months playing at almost every festival and appearing on every noisy bill they can thrash their way on to, but they’ve also bagged themselves a record deal, made an album - and this weekend they’re playing the Dr. Martens #STANDFORSOMETHING Tour in association with DIY, in Edinburgh.

“They’ve gone really well so far,” offers drummer Ash Weaver, on their ever-increasing list of shows. “We’ve had some amazing experiences and met some great people. The standout moments have been playing 2000trees and Y Not Festival; they’ve been the biggest crowds we have played to so far and the audiences really got involved. It always feels good to have people who haven’t heard you before go nuts to your music.”

They’ve not just been converting new fans with their brand of swaggering rock’n’roll. They managed to impress One Little Indian so much that they decided to sign them. “It really was exciting,” Ash explains, of how it was to be approached by them. “They’re a great label, with new ideas, and they give us a free reign to do what we do.” “Ethically we agree with their approach,” throws in guitarist Thom Edward, “and make a rule of having no creative influence which is cool.”

As for their next step, after the release of a new single ‘Horus’ (listen above) and a hefty headline tour over the next few months, they’ll be turning their attention to their long-awaited debut album. “The album is really close to being finished,” Ash assures us. “We can’t wait for it to be released for everyone to hear.”

For now though, they’re focused on their #STANDFORSOMETHING show with Funeral For A Friend, which is admittedly going to be a bit of a nostalgic occasion when it comes to the headliners’ slot. “It’s absolutely mad!” laughs Ash. “When we were contacted about the show it was a bit surreal. They’re one of those bands who were really prominent in our teenage years growing up!”

God Damn play the Edinburgh leg of the Dr. Martens’ #STANDFORSOMETHING Tour in association with DIY on 4th October, supporting Funeral For A Friend.
