Gorillaz drummer Russel Hobbs has given an interview on that new album
“What is coming will come, whether you expect it or not.”
Cartoon drummer Russel Hobbs of Gorillaz has given a new interview, and opened up a little on the prospect of new material.
Speaking to Puss Puss magazine, Russel was ever-so-slightly evasive. “You can expect whatever you like. What is coming will come, whether you expect it or not,” he, er, explained?
“What’s important isn’t what’s happening next, but what’s happening right now,” he continued. “That’s all you can control. And listen, me and Gorillaz – that’s two separate things. Our paths entwine, then separate – like a messed-up pretzel.”
In addition, Gorillaz continued their origin stories series on social media over the weekend, sharing the back story to Russel himself. Catch up with that here.
Here’s a quick catch up on that new Gorillaz news - July saw Damon Albarn say that Gorillaz’s new album will be “ready fairly soon. I’m loving it,” he said. Illustrator Jamie Hewlett has been teasing studio footage and they’re working with Vic Mensa on the new album. Snoop Dogg and De La Soul will also feature.
After previously being touted for a 2016 release, Gorillaz’s “really fuckin’ special” new album is now due out next year.
