Gulf swarm the senses with ‘Ocean’ track
Liverpool gems are playing this year’s Latitude Festival.

One of the best discoveries at Liverpool’s Sound City fest was local gems Gulf. The group were playing the main stage just a couple of hundred feet away from their day-by-day practice space - it was actually within sight. Still, it didn’t take long for their all-enveloping sound to go way beyond of Mersey confines. They delivered one of the weekend’s highlights; a lesson in deft, idea-crammed pop.
Best of all was ‘Ocean’, a sleepy but gripping example of the “publicity shy” group’s clever craft. Sitting somewhere between Wild Beasts’ pop sensibilities and Dutch Uncles’ backflipping hooks, there’s a careful mix of adventure and hard-hitting pop.
The group will be appearing at this year’s Latitude Festival, as well as the following dates:
JUNE
06-07 London, Field Day
18 Liverpool, Kazimier
19 Wrexham, Central Station
JULY
19 Latitude Festival
23-26 Secret Garden Party
25 Tramlines
Gulf will play Field Day (6th-7th June) and Latitude Festival (16th-19th July), where DIY is an official media partner. Tickets are on sale now. Visit diymag.com/presents for more information.
