Listen to Broken Social Scene cover Tom Waits
They’ve taken on the 1992 track ‘I Don’t Wanna Grow Up’.
Recently, Broken Social Scene popped into Spotify Studios in New York to play a couple of tracks for their Singles Series.
Naturally, they played a track from their most recent album ‘Hug of Thunder’ – the soaring ‘Skyline’ – but they also had a little something else up their sleeves. It was a cover of Tom Waits’ 1992 track ‘I Don’t Wanna Grow Up’ from his ‘Bone Machine’ album. Their version is a little longer than the original, and builds itself on atmospheric, melancholic guitar riffs, and a small addition of smoky brass for good measure.
Earlier this year, we caught up with the band’s Brendan Canning to talk about the new record and some of his latest and earliest musical obsessions in New Tricks. Catch up here.
