Listen: Fun. Unveil New Track, ‘Sight Of The Sun’

When they originally ran into some sample copyright issues, they thought this track would remain unknown.

There’s absolutely no denying that fun. had a spectacular year in 2012. Having released their second album ‘Some Nights’ in February of that year, the New York trio were catapulted to the top of the charts and have since been accordingly celebrated across the world. In fact, they’ve even managed to bag six Grammy nominations.

Beginning their fairly whirlwind journey with a song that appeared on a TV show - that’d be ‘We Are Young’ on Glee - it’s not all too surprising to hear that they’re at it again. This time, though, it’s a wholly brand new offering that’s appearing on HBO’s Girls’ soundtrack.

Being released on the 8th January, the band were due to stick it on their second long player, but weren’t able to thanks to some pesky sample copyright issues. Alas, they’ve gotten past that now, as vocalist Nate Ruess explains to Rolling Stone:

‘I ended up rewriting the chorus and actually like it better than the sample now! We recorded most of this in Italy on a day off from tour and I just remember us eating an Italian feast at the studio and barely being able to communicate with the engineers, which was kind of cool because it eliminated all small talk and put the focus into the song.’

Have a listen to the track, which was premiered over on RS earlier today, below. It gets officially released as part of the ‘Girls – Volume 1’ soundtrack on 8th January.

fun. are also set to return to the UK later this year, to play seven shows across the country.
