Maggie Rogers shares video for debut ‘Alaska’ single
Pharrell-approved newcomer goes dancing in the woods.
This summer, Maryland-raised songwriter Maggie Rogers caught attention when footage emerged of her playing debut single ‘Alaska’ to Pharrell, while he was teaching a masterclass at The Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU. You can watch it here, if you haven’t already. It shows Pharrell welling up, looking at Maggie in a state of disbelief, before declaring her to be the second coming.
Obviously the story doesn’t end there. A few months on and ‘Alaska’ has its own video. Shot by Zia Anger, it shows the 22-year-old traipsing through a forest and busting the odd dance move. Before long, this forest becomes the scene of an all-night, neon-lit rave. Only like most forest waves, it doesn’t end with the police stepping in and a dozen gurning strangers trying to hide in trees.
