Merchandise share new video for ‘Telephone’
Florida band have collaborated with John Byrne on their new clip.
Melting clocks, a ‘Breakfast Club’-style scenario, enough quiffs to bring the ‘80s back - Merchandise are airing a new video for ‘Telephone’. They’ve collaborated with Scottish artist John Byrne for the clip, which relives his famous play ‘The Slab Boys’.
Instead of Robert Carlisle, Robbie Coltrane and Alan Cumming, it’s left to Carson Cox and co. to play the roles, with Byrne also starring in the clip for a quick cameo.
“This video was lots of work. For sure our most theatrical but also our most animated. Under the amazing art direction of John Byrne and a load of scots we were able to not only confuse time but create a new type of surrealism,” said Cox about the new video.
‘Telephone’ is taken from Merchandise’s ‘After the End’, out now on 4AD. Check out forthcoming UK tour dates above the player.
