Morrissey Dismisses Smiths Reunion, The Beatles

Mozza praises four magnificent” Beatles songs, but that’s about it.”

Although it’s probably quite lazy to proclaim ‘Bigmouth Strikes Again’, well, the big mouth of Stephen Patrick Morrissey really has struck once more. In a recent interview with Billboard, he dodged conversation about his forthcoming solo plans - a new album, a novel - by talking about the very, very slim chances of a Smiths reunion and the lack of influence The Beatles had on him.

Morrissey, who’s currently in France recording his solo album, claimed ‘I don’t know a single person who wants a Smiths reunion!’

‘There aren’t any bands I like to see again because your memory of them is how they were in their prime or at their best or at their most desperate, and you look to them to be someone that they no longer are.’

He also had a little dig at The Beatles, who recently received nostalgic press about the 50th anniversary of their arrival in America.

‘I thought four of their songs were magnificent, and if a band can give you four magnificent songs then that’s good enough for me. But was I ever influenced by the Beatles? No,’ he concluded.

About the new album, he quipped: ‘I’m amused by modern pop artists who can only sing about sex… as if nothing else mattered on the planet.’
