Premiere: Listen: Sky Larkin Remix Empty Pools’ ‘Holding Pattern’

Empty Pools headline Neu’s Hello 2014 in London tonight, 21st January.

If there’s one absolute thread that runs through Bristol band Empty Pools’ music, it’s their manipulation of guitars. Usually it’ll wind up into something sharp, abrasive to the bone. Sparseness and bright, dazzling atmospherics barely get a look in. Hence why Sky Larkin have switched things up with their remix of ‘Holding Pattern’.

‘Holding Pattern’ forms part of a new EP, out 17th February
. It’s an extension from Empty Pools’ excitable debut ‘Saturn Reruns’. Leeds’ Sky Larkin’s take on things is to amp up the reverb, giving the original an almost shoegaze-indebted glaze as guitars soar instead of stabbing. DIY’s delighted to have the premiere, below.

Tonight Empty Pools headline a free show at London’s Old Blue Last for our Hello 2014 series. Febueder, Ekkah and Two Jackals are also on the bill.
