Watch: Empty Pools Unveil ‘Slack Tide’ Video
Depressing documentation of a 9-to-5 slog matched up with Bristol band’s cutting emotion.
There’s often so much going on in the music of Bristol band Empty Pools, it’s difficult to pierce through the busied hurrah and find a message within each song. They’re in there somewhere, though, even if it’s tempting to focus on the crazed atmosphere of their recordings.
‘Slack Tide’ turns out to be a pretty depressing song, especially when combined with a new video directed and animated by Francesca Adams. It highlights the mundanity of a 9-to-5 slog, but not in the conventional way. This guy has to put up with living in a house that spins, and working in a zero-gravity environment. His job doesn’t look much fun either. There’s no real respite. Maybe he should kick on and get a job on a farm or something.
Empty Pools’ ‘Saturn Reruns’ is out now.
