Preoccupations share ‘Memory’ video
Self-immolating short film is directed by Kevan Funk.
Calgary band Preoccupations have unveiled a striking short film for ‘Memory’, taken from their self-titled second album.
Directed by Kevan Funk, the 12-minute video stars bassist / vocalist Matt Flegel losing his way and forming a distrust of his own thoughts. Every shot matches the song itself - from a sweeping rush of guitars to a razor-toothed centrepoint. The short film’s second half is a surreal, uneasy companion to smoothed-out, ambient noise.
Speaking to NPR, the director says: “I don’t mean to sound dark, but there’s something poetic about a fire burning inside someone so intensely that one day, it actually physically manifested. You ask yourself, how much pain can we take? How much control do we have?”
