Purity Ring stream new track, ‘Push Pull’

Ghostly pop is the first taste of a follow-up to ‘Shrines’.

Canadian alt-pop duo Purity Ring have unveiled their new single, ‘Push Pull’.

The track is a first taste of an eventual follow-up to debut ‘Shrines’, due out 2015 via 4AD.

Earlier this summer, Megan James confirmed that sessions had been taking place in Texas and Edmonton’s The Audio Department. Tracks have been written separately, with producer Corin Roddick continuing to live in Montreal.

Outside of ‘Shrines’, the duo covered Soulja Boy’s ‘Grammy’ for a huge standalone free download in 2013, and they provided a follow-up to their ‘Belispeak’ single with ‘Belispeak II’. James also guested on a Jon Hopkins track, ‘Breathe This Air’.

‘Push Pull’ is a restrained, non-showy example of Purity Ring’s wild take on pop. The formula hasn’t shifted too far from the debut - instead, it’s all about the production intricacies that swirl and crash in the background, with James’ vocal doing the rest.
