Rostam went in-depth about Vampire Weekend’s ‘Contra’ on Twitter
Seven years after the LP’s leak, the former member spilled the beans about the record.
It’s been a whole seven years since Vampire Weekend’s second album ‘Contra’ leaked on to the internet. Where does the time go, eh?
If you’d ever wanted to know more about the LP, former member Rostam was all too happy to oblige as he headed to Twitter to answer fans’ questions this weekend. During the extended chat he revealed all about some of his influences for the album – including M.I.A, Tom Petty, and Chopin – and talked about how they chose tracks to fit with the general vibe of the record, outtakes and even the artwork.
Rostam even admitted that they didn’t include a version of ‘Hannah Hunt’ on the record because it “kinda sounded like ‘Say It Right’ by Nelly Furtado”. Er, okay. Good job it didn’t turn out that way when it eventually appeared on ‘Modern Vampires of the City’ then.
In January last year, Rostam officially left the band as a full-time member and has since gone on to produce a couple of solo singles, including ‘EOS’ and ‘Gravity Don’t Pull Me’. He also collaborated with The Walkmen’s Hamilton Leithauser on the album ‘I Had A Dream That You Were Mine’.
Check out a couple of Rostam’s revelations below and see the whole Q&A session over on his Twitter page. Read our feature about his collaboration with Hamilton Leithauser here.
