Sampha wins the 2017 Hyundai Mercury Prize
This year’s prize went to Sampha for his gorgeous debut ‘Process’.

It’s official: Sampha has won the 2017 Hyundai Mercury Prize with his debut album ‘Process’.
Sampha Sisay beat off competition from the likes of Glass Animals, Kate Tempest, Loyle Carner and Stormzy to take home this year’s prize for his long-awaited debut, which was released through Young Turks earlier this year.
Previously, Sampha has collaborated with the likes of SBTRKT, Solange, Drake and Jessie Ware, before releasing ‘Process’ almost seven years after originally being signed.
“I’d like to dedicate this award to my parents,” he said, beginning his acceptance speech, which also included thanks to his brothers, label and a handful of his collaborators.
This year’s prize was presented by none other than Idris Elba, while the winner was narrowed down by a panel of judges which includes the likes of Marcus Mumford, Lianne La Havas, Ella Eyre and many more.
