Romy and Sampha join forces for new single ‘I’m On Your Team’
It’s the first time the longtime friends and labelmates have featured on a track together.

Romy and Sampha have finally collaborated for their new joint single ‘I’m On Your Team’, after years of being friends and musical contemporaries (both are signed to the same label, Young).
Having originally written the song during sessions for other artists, the pair eventually recorded it in London with co-producer and composer Thomas Bartlett, aiming to capture a decidedly real depiction of love - one that recognises that long-term relationships aren’t always easy, but they can be worth the effort.
“It’s a love song but lyrically, it’s honest and truthful,” Romy has shared. “Like ‘we’ve had the magic and dreaminess but now we’ve been through things together, so here we are and I’m putting in the work.’” Continuing, Sampha adds: “I love the idea of being part of a team, that you have to show up for each other, and from there you can create an even deeper connection”.
After finding fame with her band The xx, Romy released her solo debut ‘Mid Air’ last year to critical acclaim; Sampha, meanwhile, also shared his triumphant latest LP, ‘Lahai’, in 2023.
