Q&A “I think I’d like palm trees on stage” - Spring King prep for their Fluffer Pit Party
Tarek Musa talks us through the band’s 2017 and their 360 show with Demob Happy and Nova Twins.
This year, DIY has once again joined forces with the brilliant team behind Fluffer Records to bring you some incredibly exciting shows. Having already played host to the double-header of JAWS and PINS back in July, and riotous shows from Deap Vally and Japandroids last month, it’s almost the turn of DIY faves Spring King to have their go at playing an in-the-round show.
The band, who’ve been relatively quite recently, holed away writing the follow-up to their brilliant debut album ‘Tell Me If You Like To’, the band are itching to get back out there, as vocalist/drummer Tarek Musa tells us.
Spring King play a Fluffer Pit Party for us at a secret Hackney location this Friday (15th September), with support coming from Demob Happy and Nova Twins. Get all the details on the show here, and buy last-minute tickets for the gig here.
Read our Q&A with Tarek below.
Hi Spring King! How is everything in your camp right now?
Very well! We’re working hard on new material at the moment, focusing most of our time on songwriting and trying out new things. We love working in the studio so everyone is in high spirits, but we definitely are also eager to get back on the road. I’m gonna go with a 9 out of 10 for ratings in the camp.
You’re playing a Fluffer Pit Party next week - have you ever done a gig ‘in the round’ before?
Never, and we’ve heard the shows are incredible that they put on. I’m excited to see what it’s like, both on stage when we play on Friday and off stage when I go see The Black Lips play.
It’s been quite a while since your debut album - are we likely to get sneak peeks at any new songs at the show?
No sneak peeks yet, it’ll be worth it though!
At the last pit party with Japandroids, there were beach balls all over the stage - what’s your preferred form of novelty stage paraphernalia as a band?
Beach balls is a great idea! I think i’d like palm trees on stage, or lots of old robots moving around the stage. Although that sounds like something will.i.am may do.
Is it a busy end of 2017 coming up for you?
We’re going to be busy for the next few months in the studio and we don’t plan on stopping for a while. Last year was crazy so it’s great taking a slightly slower tempo this year and building up the energy for 2018.
