System Of A Down have "written some songs" for new album

System of a Down have apparently already “written some songs” for their forthcoming new album.

In a new interview with the band’s bassist Shavo Odadjian, he admitted the band have already been in the studio, and that they’re currently “getting back into the motion of being together.”

Speaking to Madcap Music Review, Odadjian was asked if there was any chance of the band entering the studio soon, to which he replied, “There’s a very good chance, I don’t have a date,” before continuing, “we’ve already gone, we’ve written some songs. We’re keeping it to ourselves. We’re getting back into the motion of being together.”

This follows on from an interview with the band’s frontman Serj Tankian, who spoke to Rolling Stone earlier this year, in which he explained that “there has been talk” of a follow-up to their 2005 effort ‘Hypnotize’.

“There has been talk,” he said. “we are going to play this tour, come back and we’re going to see where we are. If we have songs that work for System, if I have them and Daron [Malakian, guitar] has them. The openness is there to work together, but we haven’t made any particular plans that we can announce.”

Next month, System of a Down will embark upon their ‘Wake Up The Souls’ tour, commemorating 100 years since the Armenian Genocide.
