The Strokes make it a hat-trick, unveiling ‘Threat of Joy’ on BBC Radio 1

Let’s just go ahead and name today (26th May) Strokes-day, as they’ve not only announced a brand new EP (‘Future Present Past’ released next Friday) but shared the three brand new original songs from it.

First Julian made the announcement on his ‘Culture Void’ radio show in the US, premiering track ‘OBLIVIUS’ in the process, then Zane Lowe gave us ‘Drag Queen’ on Beats 1 later in the afternoon.

Now it’s the turn of BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac, who’s premiered the third original track on the release, ‘Threat of Joy’, alongside a brief chat with Julian.

“Boring band meeting stuff,” is what he revealed drove the release, while he also said he didn’t “think anything was planned” when it came to news of any UK live dates, “we always do stuff, but no specific news, sorry.”

When pressed as to whether a full-length would follow, he added “we’ll see, if the collective will can be summoned and corralled.”
