The Strokes are back! Hear ‘OBLIVIUS’ from their brand new ‘Future Present Past’ EP

New York’s cool-as-fuck heroes have a new short-player coming next week!

It’s finally here - new material from The Strokes.

The New York giants have shared ‘OBLIVIUS’, a brand new track, on the first episode of frontman Julian Casablancas’ new Sirius XMU radio show, ‘Culture Void’.

It’s taken from a brand new EP, ‘Future Present Past’, out digitally June 3rd (that’s next Friday!) and on 10” vinyl ‘at some point’. In addition to ‘OBLIVIUS’, their first release since 2013’s ‘Comedown Machine’ features two other brand new’uns, ‘Drag Queen’ and ‘Threat Of Joy’, and a remix of ‘OBLIVIUS’ by drummer Fab Moretti.

In much less surprising news, The Strokes have also announced that they’ve signed to Cult Records. Given that their logo appeared on the label’s site last night and, y’know, it’s Julian’s baby, we’re not exactly falling off our seats at that one. But it’s good to know nonetheless.

Last night, the rumour mill whirred into life, as a projection of the band’s logo and what we now know to be the EP title appeared on walls in East London and New York. We knew they were in the studio late last year, and as recently as this very week, Albert Hammond Jr. hinted that new material would be played at their upcoming shows, but no-one could’ve seen this one coming.

Surprises, eh? They’re bloody everywhere this year.

Next week, The Strokes play a New York headliner at Capitol Theatre, in warm-up for Governors Ball next weekend. Stream ‘OBLIVIUS’ below or here via the Cult Records website.

Edit: Want more? Zane Lowe previewed ‘Drag Queen’ on his Beats 1 radio show this evening, while Annie Mac played ‘Threat of Joy’ alongside a brief chat with Julian later on BBC Radio 1.

Edit 2: Listen to the whole lot below via Spotify.
