Thurston Moore announces tour and solo album with new live super-band
Thurston’s making Moore music, and My Bloody Valentine’s Debbie Googe, and Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley are in his live band.

Since Sonic Youth went on indefinite hiatus in 2011, all of the members have gone off into various new branches, sometimes crossing paths along the way. Kim Gordon has been occupied with her various batshit crazy noise collaborations with Yoko Ono and Body/Head, while guitarist Lee Ranaldo has set up his own project, Lee Ranaldo and The Dust. Up until recently Thurston Moore has been on front man duty at Chelsea Light Moving, and there’s been much more going on besides. Trying to keep up with all the various projects and manifestations of partial Sonic Youth line-ups is more confusing than trying to follow Southampton FC’s transfer schedule.
Now Thurston Moore has set up a new band - the imaginatively named Thurston Moore Band. It’s something of a super-band, as well. My Bloody Valentine’s bassist Debbie Googe is in it, too, along with Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley and James Sedwards - the man John Peel called “the first person who’s not a footballer that I’ve been jealous of.” Set to play their first gig on August 19th at Ocii in Amsterdam, Moore has also announced a new solo album, ‘The Best Day’, along with a string of tour dates.
