Toothless and Marika Hackman share an acoustic video for ‘Palm’s Backside’
Ed Nash will also be heading off on a tour of the UK and Europe later this year.
Back in June, Bombay Bicycle Club’s Ed Nash – better known under the moniker Toothless – released a collection of new versions of some of the tracks from his debut album ‘The Pace Of The Passing’ (as well as a Sufjan Stevens cover!)
He’s now unveiled yet another new take on an older track, this time of ‘Palm’s Backside’, alongside Marika Hackman. It’s an acoustic version of the tune, which sees Marika and Ed exchanging lines and verses like a conversation. It’s also accompanied by a charming video which films the pair in separate locations, but brings them together on one screen through two panels.
Speaking of the track itself, Ed said: “Palm’s Backside” was my take on a breakup song but with a twist. Normally breakup songs are about being hard done by and wanting to get back with your ex or about how you didn’t need them in the first place. Palm’s is about realising that your old partner is better off without you and trying to move on as a result”.
He continued: “The song is a back and fourth between a guy and a girl looking back at their relationship. Marika Hackman was my first choice to sing the female parts as I have always loved her music and thought her voice was the perfect counterpoint to mine. Filming this session was the first time I had seen Marika since recording the song and filming the original video for it. She turned up on the day and learnt all the guitar parts in 5 mins!”
Later in the year Toothless will be headed on a tour of the UK and Europe as a special guest of Hippo Campus, making stops in Bristol, Nottingham, London, Manchester and Glasgow along the way. Tickets are on sale now.
